Greater Accra’s oldest and most historic district in the capital of Ghana, Jamestown is occupying right on the Gulf of Guinea coast. This community is inhabited by the Ga people and they are primarily fisherfolks. The neighbourhood is filled with sounds of children playing, the smell of smoking fish stirs with thick ocean salt. It also happens to be one of the festive districts in Accra Metropolis and the must visit place to experience bits of colonial rule, fishing, music, dance, art and festivals.

Banku and Kenkey tie up with ground pepper and fish or okra stew are the main food of the Ga people. One can easily purchase fried fish, shrimps, octopus together with the Banku or kenkey from food joints on the street side.

The main source of transportation in Jamestown is the minibus (Trotro); it can be board to almost anywhere in the metropolis. Taxis, Bolt and Uber provides generally affordable drives, and the motorbikes(Okada) also offers drive to those at vantage points without traffic whahala.

Accra Jamestown is known as Ghana’s hometown of boxing champions. Bukom, a suburb of Jamestown, is well noted for nuturing and supporting the sport with over 20 gyms producing some of the world’s best boxers like Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, Bukom Banku and Joshua Clottey (The Hittler).

The biggest street art festival dubbed Chale Wote takes place at Jamestown annually in the month of August. Chale Wote Arts Festival usually runs for a week and delve into various mediums ranging from art installations: theatre, music, food, dance, fashion, décor, street performances and street paintings inside the historical buildings of Jamestown.
